Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner headed for divorce
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are ending their marriage after a decade.
"After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce," they said in a statement obtained by CBS News on Tuesday. "We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time."
This will be the only statement they make on what they're calling a "private, family matter."
Garner, 42, and Affleck, 43, are parents to three children: Violet, 9, Seraphina, 6, and Samuel, 3.
The couple are readying the necessary paperwork and setting up meetings for the split. According to TMZ, divorce papers will be filed when property and custody issues are worked out.
They've been in tabloid headlines for a while now, with reports of trouble within the marriage. In a 2014 CBS News interview about the movie "Gone Girl," Affleck spoke highly about his wife, saying, "The person I found out that I married was almost better than what I thought."
Affleck and Garner started dating in 2004 after getting to know each other on the sets of "Pearl Harbor" (2001) and "Daredevil" (2003). By April 2005, they were engaged. On June 29, 2005, Affleck and Garner wed in a private ceremony, officiated by Victor Garber in Turks and Caicos. The divorce news comes just a day after their 10-year wedding anniversary.
Garner was previously married to "Scandal" actor Scott Foley from 2000-2004. Affleck previously dated Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Lopez.
