Beat the heat wave with these handy gadgets

Beat the heat wave with these handy gadgets
Swell Bottle/Amazon, HMB-Tec

(CBS) - As the heat wave sweeps across 22 states - Nebraska, New York, Louisiana and Texas just to name a few - with temperatures reaching 105 degrees Fahrenheit (but feels more like 110 to 115 in some areas), it's important to keep yourself and your loved ones comfortable.

Aside from dressing cool and running air conditioners, these handy devices can also help you beat the heat...

Fan your iPhone up

This might sound ridiculous, but if all you need is a little bit of air, HMB-Tec's iPocketFan App might do the trick. Although the adapter is more novel than it is a godsend, it can provide you with momentary relief. You can also walk around with this Portable Mini Travel Fan with Water Spray ($12.99 at Amazon), which likely has more power.

Try this cooling device

The BEX Runner (not pictured; $29.99 at BetterExerciseExperience.com) "quickly, safely and non-invasively removes heat from the core through a unique system of blood vessels called Arteriovenous Anasomoses (AVAs) found under the palm's surface." It won't make you feel cold like you're holding ice cubes or anything, but it will minimize the effects of heat stress.

Enjoy water consumption with a fab water bottle

And the most obvious way to stay cool during a heat wave: drink water. If H20 is not your favorite beverage, try dropping a lemon wedge into your handy water bottle. We love the Swell Bottle ($35 and up each at SwellBottle.com), the ultimate portable hydration vessel. It's double-walled and insulated, so your water will stay cold.
