Back-to-school fashion: Five trends for fall 2014
It's time to head back to school. You can almost smell it in the air. But one thing is for sure, hitting the books -- whether you're in high school or college -- is a lot more fun with some new fall outfits.
We caught up with Andrew Bevan, Teen Vogue's style features editor, to find out the five hottest looks for the new season. Some have a retro vibe, while others feature new twists on familiar classics. This fall you can plan for plaids, wooly coats, oversized cardigans, fringe, pastels and more.
And don't worry guys, we didn't forget about you.
Bevan thinks guys are really starting to "step up to the plate" with fashion. That's partially thanks to stores such as Zara and H&M expanding their collections for men. "You're able to get more fashion-forward pieces at a cheaper price," said Bevan.
Guys shouldn't be afraid of wearing a blazer with jeans or a leather jacket. "I think we're seeing a little bit of a '60s, Buddy Holly movement with the guys," said Bevan, who added he likes the "rebellious prep" look. "You might be buttoned up a bit, but you're wearing a leather jacket...You might be wearing some Doc Martens."
Not surprisingly, denim is making its way into students' fall closets -- but there are a few twists this year.
We asked Bevan his take on the denim-on-denim look: Is it a do or a don't?
"I think it's a 'do.' I think the main thing you have to look into is it needs to be a very intentional look, and they shouldn't match," said Bevan.
