Fugitive suspect in Austin bar shooting arrested near Atlanta
AUSTIN, Texas -- Police in Austin have arrested a man suspected of shooting into a crowd in downtown Austin just after bars closed early Sunday, CBS affiliate KEYE reported.
Endicott McCray, 24, was arrested around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday in the Atlanta area by U.S. Marshals, the station reported. The shooting Sunday left one woman dead and three other victims wounded, setting off a chaotic scene in a crowded entertainment district.
Austin Police Chief of Staff Brian Manley said police received reports of gunshots in the area of East 6th Street shortly after 2 a.m. Manley said a suspect began firing into the crowd after an initial disturbance.
On Sunday, officials described the conditions of those transported to the hospital as serious, but said their wounds were not considered life-threatening.
The victim who died has been identified as Teqnika Marie Moultrie, the station reported. According to an affidavit, police said they believe the intended target of the shooting was McCray's brother-in-law.
McCray is charged with first-degree murder.
