At least 5 dead in late-night shooting outside Pittsburgh
WILKINSBURG, Pa. -- Allegheny County Police say five people are dead and three others wounded -- and police are looking for two gunmen -- after a shooting spree late Wednesday night in the Borough of Wilkinsburg, just outside Pittsburgh.
One neighbor reported hearing more than 25 gunshots, reports CBS Pittsburgh.
Later came word that more shots had been fired:
A distressed neighbor, Jackie Johnson-Pendleton, told CBS Pittsburgh she "heard about 30 gunshots, it was just a constant. When I came out, people were screaming and running and bodies were lying on the front porch. People's lives taken like that at the drop of a hat, it's just insane and it needs to stop."
The incident happened during a backyard party or cookout.
Allegheny County Police Lt. Andrew Schurman said four people were found dead at the scene and four others were rushed to local hospitals, where one was pronounced dead. Two were in critical condition.
Police said shots were fired from an alley at the rear of the home, then party-goers appeared to try to run inside, when someone on the side of the house or in a backyard adjacent to it fired at the back porch. All four of the victims who died at the scene died on that porch.
Schurman later described the shooting as an "ambush"-style attack, noting that while gunfire came from two distinct locations, police don't believe anyone at the party fired back.
