Arrest Made In Baseball Bat Beating Death
An arrest has been made in the death of a mentally disabled man who was struck on the head with a baseball bat in an attack captured on video, authorities said.
Jason Ryan Verador, 28, was arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of murder, police said Thursday. Bail was set at $1 million. A telephone number for Verador was not listed, and it was not known whether he had hired an attorney.
James McKinney, 41, was attacked May 29 by a man wielding an aluminum baseball bat. Video from a security camera showed McKinney being hit from behind and falling to the ground. McKinney died five days later of massive head injuries.
The arrest came after a man alerted police, saying he had recognized the attacker from the video and had followed him to a nearby home, authorities said. The tipster said he had spotted the man walking in the area where the attack occurred and that the man was carrying a baseball bat.
Police said no motive for the attack has been determined.
