Arrest in case of Fla. doctor found slain in home
FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Authorities have announced an arrest in the murder of a well-known southwest Florida doctor.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office reports that an out-of-state man was arrested for the killing of Dr. Teresa Sievers, who was found dead in her Bonita Springs home in late June.
Officials didn't provide details on the arrest or how investigators made the connection between the 46-year-old Sievers and the suspect.
Sheriff Mike Scott declined to answer questions from the media during a Thursday news conference. He has not yet provided a cause or manner of death for Sievers.
Sievers, a married mother of two, was killed June 29. She was known for her holistic approach to health and her work with transgender patients.
The internist, 46, ran a holistic health practice called Restorative Health and Healing Center with her husband, reports the Naples Daily News.
A neighbor told CBS affiliate WINK last month she heard a shrill sound come from Sievers' home around 5 a.m. on June 29. Another neighbor told the station he heard a man's voice shouting.
Sources close to the investigation told the station last month that Sievers was killed with a hammer. On Thursday, Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott said that information didn't come from the sheriff's office.
Scott told WINK last month the crime doesn't appear to be random.
