Arby's venison sandwiches back in time for deer hunting season
Oh deer! Restaurant chain Arby's is offering a second helping of its venison sandwiches nationwide later this month after a test run last year sold out within hours in five hunting-centric states.
"The positive response to our limited offering of venison last year was so widespread and passionate that we knew we had to find a way to offer it nationwide," said Jim Taylor, chief marketing officer of Atlanta-based Arby's Restaurant Group Inc.
With deer hunting season on the way, fans of venison might not have to trek out into the woods this year to get their fix. Arby's says its sandwich -- available Oct. 21 this year -- will include thick-cut, marinated venison steak and crispy onions topped with a juniper berry sauce on a toasted roll.
The sandwich will be available while supplies last – and the company says it expects them to go quickly, judging by last year's response at Arby's outlets in the deer-hunting haunts of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Georgia.
"The unique offering generated an outpouring of requests from hunters and meat lovers across the country hoping to try Arby's take on venison," the company said. "That hunt will end October 21, when Arby's Venison Sandwich returns, this time at every Arby's restaurant in America."
Also on Oct. 21, the company will test sales of a new "limited edition" elk sandwich at Arby's outlets in Thornton, Colorado; Casper, Wyoming; and Billings, Montana.
