Arab Newspaper Publishes Parts of Saddam's Memoirs Former Iraqi President

Saddam Hussein filled over five large notebooks with his memoirs while in prison after his arrest in Iraq, according to the pan-Arab al Hayat newspaper. The paper, which obtained copies of parts of the memoirs, started publishing them exercise, joking with the guards, Monday. In part 1, Saddam writes in great detail about daily issues involving his stay at the prison and asking for a rose. Hussein was also worried about catching a sexually transmitted disease, which he states clearly in his notes, as he recalls asking the guards not to hand their clothes next to his. The newspaper notes there are sometimes contradictions between Hussein's notes and information obtained through an informed, US military source. The source told the paper Hussein never washed his clothes himself, as he wrote, and assured no clothes were ever hung outside his cell.
