NEW YORK (CBS) With a new title - "Celebrity Apprentice" - added to his resume, singer Bret Michaels told TV audiences Monday that he was ready to rock.

Appearing on NBC's "Today" show, Michaels said he was not feeling 100 percent himself, but that he was eager to get back on stage and would try a performance in the coming weeks and see how it goes.

The 47-year-old Poison frontman suffered appendicitis in early April, a brain hemorrhage in late April and was hospitalized last week after what doctors called a warning stroke. He also faces surgery for a hole in his heart, diagnosed during last week's hospitalization.

On Sunday night, he was named Donald Trump's latest apprentice, defeating Holly Robinson Peete for the title. He also won $250,000 for his charity, the American Diabetes Association. The singer was diagnosed in childhood with Type 1 diabetes and his daughter was diagnosed as prediabetic while he was taping the reality show.

When Trump asked him during the show whether he was going against doctor's orders by appearing at the live finale, he said, "The doctors said it wasn't very smart to be here, but I'm not a very smart guy in that capacity."

Michaels added, "with the luck I've been having, it seems that getting out of a chair's a risk lately."

He used humor again when Trump asked him whether he was going for a sympathy vote. Referring to Peete's low-cut nude lame dress, Michaels jokingly accused her of playing the "hotness card," and said he would use "everything I got" to win.
