Apple WWDC 2012: What you need to know
(CBS News) Apple announced the 2012 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) Wednesday, but ample developers have been left in the cold. The annual event in San Francisco sold out in just two hours.

The five-day conference will be held from June 11 through June 15. Tickets are sold out, but Apple will post videos of the sessions "shortly after the conference" online.
Every year thousands of developers descend on San Francisco to attend seminars and events lead by Apple engineers. The conference will highlight the latest operating systems for mobile devices and desktop computers, iOS and the soon to be released OS X Mountain Lion.
Over 1,000 Apple engineers are expected to hold 100 hands-on labs to assist developers with coding and developing techniques.
There's one last-chance way to get into WWDC 2012. Apple is giving out a WWDC student scholarship for students who are members of either the iOS Developer Program, iOS Developer University Program or Mac Developer Program. Up to 150 students will be awarded tickets to the conference.
App developers can also be nominated for the 2012 Apple Design Awards, which will be held during WWDC. While attendance is not required to win an award, tickets to WWDC are required to attend the ceremony.
Some have already speculated that the next iPhone, which is tentatively being called the iPhone 5, will be announced. Apple has historically launched iPhones in the summer, often at WWDC. The iPhone 4S announcement was delayed last year and got bumped to October. The company has generally used the summer conference to announce new operating systems, software and hardware.
