Why Barbra Streisand is now singing Siri's praises
Entertainment icon Barbra Streisand said “hello, gorgeous” to Apple today after its personal assistant Siri learned how to pronounce her name correctly. The singer, director, and actress took to Twitter to sing Siri’s praises.
“Hearing Siri say my name correctly is music to my ears!” Streisand wrote.
The tweet came after the star revealed she was upset to discover Siri had been mispronouncing her name. In an interview with NPR’s Scott Simon to promote her new CD last month, Streisand recounted that if you asked Siri a question about her -- such as, “Who was the only female vocalist who’s had hit records for six straight decades?” -- the answer didn’t come out quite right.
“She pronounces my name wrong,” Streisand said during the interview. ‘“Streisand’ with a soft S, like sand on the beach. I’ve been saying this for my whole career. And so what did I do? I called the head of Apple, Tim Cook, and he delightfully agreed to have Siri change the pronunciation of my name, finally, with the next update on September 30th.”
Streisand -- whose new album, “Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway,” debuted at the top of the Billboard charts last week -- isn’t the only Apple fan looking for company updates on the horizon.
On Sept. 7, Apple is expected to release the latest versions of the iPhone and the Apple Watch. Among other new features, it will apparently make a certain “EGOT”-winner very happy.
