Apple invites press to Sept. 10 iPhone event
It's all happening! CNET reports that Apple has sent invitation to the press for an event on Sept. 10. The tech giant is widely expected to announce its next-generation iPhone and, possibly, a cheaper model.
A brightly-colored invitation with a similar color palette to Apple's new mobile operating system iOS 7, simply states: "This should brighten everyone's day."
Few details are known about the next iPhone, except that it will come with a completely redesigned mobile operating system. Other rumors suggest that Apple will include features like a fingerprint sensor, dual-LED flashlight and upgraded hardware. The new iPhone is also expected to keep the current design and 4-inch display. Some rumors suggest that the new iPhone will come in a variety of colors, including gold.
Rumors about a low-cost iPhone, that is being dubbed the iPhone 5C, suggest that it will be made of plastic and come in a variety of colors.
The event will be held at Apple's headquarters in Cupertino, Calif. at 9 a.m. PT. CBSNew.com's sister site CNET will report live from the event.
