Federal judge will hear anti-Donald Trump lawsuit
A federal judge will hear oral arguments Thursday in a lawsuit filed by a Virginia GOP delegate who wants the freedom to vote for any other candidate but Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention this month.
Beau Correll, a Ted Cruz supporter, recently filed the lawsuit and wants to try and ensure that delegates become unbound. Virginia state law compels all delegates to vote "for the candidate receiving the most votes in the primary," even though party rules allocate delegates differently.
"The government should not compel members of a private association how to vote in that association," Correll told CBS News last week.
Correll says the law violates his First Amendment Rights.
He told CBS that Trump doesn't "exhibit the judgment, the competency for the highest office in the land.
"Donald Trump has anemic poll numbers, anemic fundraising numbers. He can't win by rallies alone," he said.
Eight Virginia delegates and Trump supporters have filed a motion to intervene in the lawsuit because they disagree, according to The Washington Post.
