(CBS) Angelina Jolie's directorial debut, "In the Land of Blood and Honey," may not have made the Academy Awards' foreign-language film short list, but the actress is still receiving accolades for the film.

Jolie was honored with the Stanley Kramer Award, recognizing filmmakers "whose achievement or contribution illuminates provocative social issues in an accessible and elevating fashion," on Saturday at the Producers Guild Awards.

Jolie, wearing a black Michael Kors gown with lace detail at the sleeves, back and waist, accepted the award from Morgan Freeman during the ceremony.

"What I hope is that our film helps people not forget the past," she said of her film, a love story set during the Bosnian War. "I want people to see what these people have gone through and that they are able to tell their story through their bravery. Their story matters."

The actress also shared that she could see herself continuing to work behind the camera.

"I still love acting - if I can find those roles that matter," she told E! News at the event. "But if I don't, it's nice to be able to shine the spotlight on another actress you think is extremely talented and give her the spotlight."

Stars photographed on the red carpet before the event include Jolie (who posed with partner Brad Pitt), Steven Spielberg, Alicia Keys, Viola Davis, Jessica Chastain, Zachary Quinto, Sofia Vergara, Judd Apatow (who brought daughter Maude as his date), Evan Rachel Wood and Shailene Woodley.

"The Artist" took the top honor Saturday at the PGAs, giving it yet another boost in its run towards Oscar night.
