Angelina Jolie considering a political career

Would Angelina Jolie leave Hollywood behind for Washington? Possibly.

In a new interview with Britain's ITV News, the actress, director and humanitarian reveals she'd consider making a switch into politics "if I felt I could really make a difference."

"I've always gone wherever I felt I was needed," Jolie explained. "When I started working with the UN, I loved working in the field. I felt useful in the field. And then there was a point when I realized I was only so useful in the field because somebody had to go to Washington and plead the case, and so then I would do that.

"I don't know what that means or where that will lead me but I want to be effective," she added. "I want to help to make change."

Jolie, a special envoy of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, also spoke to ITV about the crises affecting people in other nations around the world.

"We have overall a failing of international leadership when we have 51 million people displaced from conflict, more people displaced than since after World War II, when we have completely open-ended conflicts, when we have crises like Syria," she said. "We seem to be completely unable to handle it and make ground and help all of the people who are starving and dying at this moment...I think clearly if you look around the world you can say that we simply are not doing enough."

Jolie is prompting her latest directorial effort, "Unbroken," which comes out in theaters on Christmas Day.
