"Target" of online death threats may have posted them herself

SAN DIMAS, Calif. - A police investigation into online threats made against a San Dimas, Calif. middle school student suggests the girl may have posted the threats herself, reports CBS Los Angeles.

The Lone Hills Middle School student claimed to be the victim of death threats posted on Instagram earlier this month. One of the posts reportedly said, "We plan to kill her."

The student was detained and cited by deputies after a source says she posted the threats, according to the station.

Parents of other students say they are glad to hear the threats appear to be over.

"I guess I'm just glad that nothing happened," one mother told CBS Los Angeles.

Other parents suggested a possible motive for the incident.

"Maybe they just want attention," Yolanda Gutierrez said. "They probably don't get the attention at home, and they're trying to get it through a different way."

The station reported thile no charges have been brought, the student has been suspended from school.
