Alison Marie Mims Cold Case Arrest: N.M. Man Captured for 1980 Murder Near Phoenix
PHOENIX (CBS/KPHO/AP) A man wanted for the 1980 killing of a woman in the Phoenix area has been arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in New Mexico.
Deputy U.S. Marshal James Badway said a fugitive team arrested 50-year-old Albuquerque resident Patrick Ryon after a foot chase on Friday night.
Ryon is suspected of killing 19-year-old Alison Marie Mims, who disappeared after leaving a wedding reception in December 1980. Mims' body was found in the desert in 1987 but not identified until early this year.
According to CBS affiliate KPHO, Ryon was wanted on a first-degree murder and sexual assault warrant obtained by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jesse Spurgin said detectives were in Albuquerque Saturday and would return Ryon to Phoenix after an extradition hearing.
