Alicia Moore Update: Hundreds gather for candlelight vigil near site where murdered Texas teen was last seen
(CBS) -- Over 100 people gathered at a Greenville intersection Wednesday night where a murdered Texas teen stepped off her school bus before being reported missing last week, CBS DFW reports.
Alicia Moore, 16, disappeared Friday afternoon stepping off the school bus a block away from her home. Her body was discovered Tuesday stuffed inside a trunk on the side of a Texas highway.
"Why? I don't know why," said her mother, Aretha Moore, at the candlelight vigil. "She was quiet, a home-body. Didn't bother no one."
The official cause of death is still pending, but Greenville Police Chief Dan Busken said at a Wednesday press conference that there were indications of trauma present on Moore's body.
"It's a lot of questions," said Jessica Byrd, the girl's aunt. "But at this moment. I'm just glad we found her."
Friends and family offered comfort and condolences to the girl's family while residents try to make sense of the tragedy.
"Alicia's life has brought us an alertness to what is going on around us," said Philip Dukes, a pastor.
