Albino monocled cobra caught near Los Angeles
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Animal control officers on Thursday captured a venomous albino cobra that attacked a dog in Ventura County, CBS Los Angeles reported.
The 5-foot-long monocled cobra, a native of Southeast Asia, had been spotted Monday night in Thousand Oaks after it attacked a greyhound, officials said.
The dog, Kiko, was bitten in the neck and taken to a veterinarian. It is expected to make a full recovery.
California Department of Fish and Wildlife and Los Angeles Animal Services officers had posted informational fliers in the neighborhood and urged residents to keep pets and children inside.
The owner of the cobra had not come forward as of Thursday afternoon. However, a company located 10 miles away that rents out exotic animals for film and TV shoots is considered a possible origin for the reptile, CBS Los Angeles said.
