Gunman seen on video firing into slain correction officer’s car

NEW YORK CITY -- Police have released new surveillance video in the slaying of an off-duty New York City correction officer in the hopes that it helps identify her killer, reports CBS New York.

Police say 25-year-old Alastasia Bryan was shot Sunday night while sitting in the drivers seat of her car parked near her home in the Flatlands neighborhood of Brooklyn. Bryan was headed to her job at Rikers Island jail in New York City at the time of the killing. She had worked at the facility for a month.

In the video, a man can be seen walking up to Bryan’s car and firing five shots. Bryan cannot be seen in the video. Officers say they found her with gunshot wounds to her head and torso. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police released the video along with surveillance images of two men who were seen in the area who they want to question in connection with the case. One of them may be the triggerman, police say.

Authorities are also searching for a gold or tan colored four-door Hyundai Elantra seen near the crime scene.

Detectives believe Bryan was likely the intended target of the shooting.  A motive isn’t clear.

The Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association has issued a statement saying the correction family is “shocked and grieving the horrific murder” of Bryan.
