Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton have most Facebook interactions

Hillary Clinton received the most likes, comments, posts and shares on Facebook and the most unique visitors over the last month among Democratic presidential candidates, although Republican Donald Trump had substantially more unique visitors than candidates of either party.

Ahead of the first Democratic debate in Las Vegas Tuesday night, Facebook said Clinton received more than 8.5 million unique visitors to her page and had more than 36.5 million interactions between September 10 and October 10.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont, who has been trailing Clinton in recent national polls, also trails her on Facebook, with about 5.9 million unique visitors and nearly 30 million interactions.

Two other Democratic contenders -- former Maryland Gov. Marton O'Malley and former Sen. Jim Webb, Virginia -- registered much lower on the list of candidates in terms of their engagement on Facebook.

Former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee, who's running as a Democrat, did not make the list at all.

Among all of the presidential candidates running, Donald Trump received the most unique visitors, about 18.4 million, and more than 76 million interactions.

Here were the most talked about political topics over the last month on Facebook in the U.S.:

  1. Religion
  2. Guns
  3. The Economy
  4. Homeland Security and Terrorism
  5. Racial Issues

On Monday, Facebook reported that 1 billion users had engaged in interactions related to the 2016 presidential race.
