Add Aretha Franklin to the list of celebrity holiday engagements

(CBS) Aretha Franklin is engaged to her longtime friend William "Willie" Wilkerson, adding to the long list of celebrities who chose the holidays as the perfect time to pop the question.

The 69-year-old Grammy-winning singer, who has been married twice before, said the two plan on a summer wedding.

It seems like over the holidays everyone had the same idea of providing their significant other with engagement rings.

"Bridesmaids" actor Chris O'Dowd asked his girlfriend, British TV personality Dawn Porter, to marry him while the two were on vacation on an island in the English Channel; basketball legend Michael Jordan popped the question to his girlfriend model Yvette Prieto over Christmas weekend as well.
