Adam Sandler tops Forbes' most overpaid actors list

Forbes has come up with its list of the most overpaid actors in Hollywood, and Adam Sandler has earned the top "honor" for the second consecutive year.

The magazine also placed Johnny Depp and Tom Hanks on the list, which was released Tuesday.

Rankings were determined by comparing actors' estimated earnings with the budget and revenue of the last three major films they starred in before June 2014 (not including animated movies, small cameos or films released on less than 2,000 screens).

While Sandler's latest film, "Grown Ups 2," was a hit, it wasn't enough to make up for the disappointing showings for his two previous releases, "Jack and Jill" and "That's My Boy." Per Forbes' calculations, for every $1 that Sandler is paid, he returns $3.20.

Depp, who came in second on the list, brings in big bucks with his "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise, but has also starred in recent box office misses like "Dark Shadows" and "The Lone Ranger." Per Forbes, he returns $4.10 for every $1 he's paid.

Ben Stiller, Ryan Reynolds and Hanks rounded out the top five, the latter making the list because of the big-budget "Cloud Atlas."

Only one female star appears on the list: Sandra Bullock, coming in at No. 9. But, Forbes notes, she and actor Channing Tatum (who came in at No. 7) would not be considered overpaid by traditional Hollywood standards -- deals that allow them back end payments on their films' box-office hauls factored into the magazine's calculations and landed them both on the list.
