NEW YORK (CBS) Aaron Carter, a pop singer and the younger brother of Backstreet Boy Nick Carter, is seeking help to heal "some emotional spiritual issues."

The 23-year-old former "Dancing with the Stars" Season 9 contestant entered a private treatment facility in Southern California earlier this month, E! Online reports

"Aaron, understanding the challenges and hard work it would take to get himself back to the top, requested to take some time before we started to heal some emotional and spiritual issues he was dealing with," his manager Johnny Wright said in a statement. "Therefore he has chosen to enter a facility where he feels he will get the guidance and cleansing he needs that will help him on the music journey he's about to take.

Before finishing fifth on "DWTS" in 2009, Carter appeared on the 2006 reality show "House of Carters" with his four siblings. His last studio album, "Another Earthquake," was released in 2002.
