65-foot yacht burns off Malibu, California
(AP) MALIBU, Calif.- The owner of a 65-foot yacht has escaped flames that engulfed the vessel at anchor off Malibu.
A Coast Guard patrol boat extinguished the blaze early Wednesday. The yacht was anchored a quarter-mile off Paradise Cove.
City News Service says the owner was aboard when the fire broke out at about 11:20 p.m. Tuesday.
Investigators say he quickly got into a dinghy and made it to shore. His name hasn't been released.
A Los Angeles County lifeguard Baywatch vessel and the Coast Guard were called and the fire was extinguished at 12:19 a.m.
It appears the sailboat was destroyed. A damage figure and a cause of the fire haven't been released.
