(CBS/WBBM) CHICAGO -- Someone's apparently been watching the watches at a high-end Chicago jewelry store more closely than security.

Burglars made off with watches valued at a half million dollars from "New York Jewelers" in Chicago's Loop in the pre-dawn hours on Monday.

The burglar alarm sounded around 5:40 a.m. at the store on Jeweler's Row. Police arrived to find several glass display cases on the second floor smashed and expensive watches missing. Some were left on the floor.

Police say there was a large, movable sign placed in front of a window. They believe the burglars put it there so they wouldn't be noticed breaking in.

There was a similar burglary at another Jeweler's Row store about a month ago at the same time of day.
