2014 Midterm Elections: CBS News projections in 7 races
As polls close at 9 p.m. in several states across the nation, the Louisiana Senate race appeared headed for a runoff, with Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu failing to reach the 50 percent threshold necessary for a victory. The runoff would take place on Dec. 6.
The GOP has also picked up another Senate seat, with CBS News projecting that Republican Mike Rounds will be the next senator from South Dakota, replacing retiring Sen. Tim Johnson, a Democrat. Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn is projected to win his re-election race.
Democrats were able to fend off a Republican challenge, with a win projected for Democratic Rep. Gary Peters in the Michigan Senate race.
CBS News has also projected that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has won his re-election bid, as has South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard. In Texas, CBS News projects that Attorney General Greg Abbott, the Republican candidate, will defeat Democrat Wendy Davis.
