2012 Year in Review: Mass shootings
(CBS) - From moviegoers gunned down in Colorado, to a congregation of Sikhs under fire in Wisconsin, to a classroom full of first-graders slaughtered last week in Connecticut, Crimesider has reported on more than a dozen public shootings that left at least 80 victims dead in 2012.

It wasn't until the Dec. 14 murders of 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., however, that one of these incidents seemed to spark a change in the national conversation around guns and gun control. On Dec. 19, President Obama announced that Vice President Biden would lead a task force that will provide recommendations by January 2013 on how to reduce gun violence in the United States.
