2 hospitalized in N.Y. commuter train collision
RIVERHEAD, N.Y. --A suburban commuter train struck two vehicles Thursday at an intersection, injuring two people, officials say.
The diesel-powered Long Island Rail Road train was traveling west from Greenport to Ronkonkoma. Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesman Aaron Donovan says 15 passengers were on the train.
The collision took place just before 2 p.m. at the Mill Road crossing in Riverhead.
Five people were reported in the vehicles. Two were hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries, according to CBS New York.
The crash has disrupted some service to the rail line which services New York City and its Long Island suburbs.
In February, a train on another New York commuter line, the Metro North Railroad, rammed a sport utility vehicle on the tracks at a Valhalla, N.Y., crossing. The accident killed six people and seriously injured nearly a dozen.
