2 Dallas officers indicted after man dies following arrest
DALLAS — Two Dallas police officers have been indicted by a grand jury following the death last year of a man they had arrested and subjected to physical restraint.
The Dallas Police Department says Sgt. Kevin Mansell and Officer Danny Vasquez were indicted on charges of deadly conduct, which means putting someone in imminent danger of physical harm.
The charges stem from the arrest of Tony Timpa on Aug. 10, 2016, due to erratic behavior. According to CBS DFW, Timpa called 911 for help, but police say he was combative and aggressive and subjected him to physical restraint. He later died at a hospital.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide and said he died of cardiac arrest caused by the toxic effects of cocaine and stress from physical restraint.
The two officers have been placed on administrative leave. CBS DFW reports that more indictments are expected in the case.
