1st & 2nd Round Recap: South

As was the case in the other three regions, the No. 1 seed advanced to the round of 16 in the South.

Michigan State methodically disposed of their two foes.

But the rest of the bracket is an underdog-lover's paradise.

No. 12 seed Gonzaga, no stranger to the "Sweet 16" recently, is back again.

John Chaney's Temple Owls, the 11th seed, also advanced, thanks to a stifling defense.

No. 7 seed Penn State knocked off No. 2 North Carolina and rounds out the unlikely trio.

Here's a review of the early round action:

Penn State Jolts Carolina
The trio of Titus Ivory, Joe Crispin and Gyasi Cline-Heard combined for 61 points to lead Penn State to a stunning 82-74 victory over North Carolina, the South's No. 2 seed, and earned the Nittany Lions a berth in the round of 16.
