11-month-old Georgia baby left in hot car dies, report says

WALKER COUNTY, Ga. -- An 11-month-old baby in North Georgia died after being left in a hot car Saturday afternoon, reports CBS affiliate WGCL-TV.

The child's death reportedly took place in Walker County, a nearly two hours' drive from Atlanta. The baby was going home from church with his grandparents, aunt and another child, according to the station.

The child's mother had been home sleeping. When she woke up and asked where her child was, the family then discovered that the child had been left in the hot car, according to WGCL.

The child's death reportedly marks the first hot car death in the state this year.

The Walker County Sheriff's Office is investigating and say more information will be released on Tuesday, reports the station. An autopsy will performed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's medical examiner in Atlanta.
