What happens if a newborn doesn’t pass their hearing screening?

Almost 6,000 babies in the U.S. are born with some level of permanent hearing loss and some children experience hearing loss later in childhood. Hearing loss can affect a child’s ability to develop communication, language, and social skills, explains Lisa Scheidt, an audiologist at Children’s Minnesota.
