Gophers Get Ready To Host Hockey City Classic

TCF Bank Stadium will hold an outdoor doubleheader Friday afternoon at the Hockey City Classic, featuring the Minnesota Gophers men's and women's hockey teams. The men's team took to the ice late Thursday afternoon in preparation for Friday's game. It was also a chance to see the ice at nightfall, checking out the sight lines under the lights. Coach Dan Lucia says there will be one other element in play that's a bit more distracting than the waning sunlight.

Vikings Stadium Construction Off To Swift Start

The big dig is on. Construction on a new Vikings stadium is well underway. In fact, it's going so fast that the demolition of the old Dome could happen soon. Mortenson Construction Company, the builder of the new stadium, has already removed 100,000 tons of dirt, creating a vast hole that is essentially a foundation for the new facility. Workers are putting in the pilings to secure the outer perimeter. All of this is in preparation for the last Dome event: the Vikings game against the Lions on Dec. 29.

Dome Hosts Final High School Prep Bowl

For more than three decades, the weekend after Thanksgiving has been special for high school football players. This weekend will be the last time the Prep Bowl will be held at the Metrodome. The venue is coming down to make way for a new Vikings stadium. For Noah Rockholl, the quarterback on last year's football team, Friday is a special day. "You can drive through the streets of Underwood today and I guarantee you won't see a single person or a car in the town," Rockholl said. "The whole the whole town's here."

Border-Battle Tailgaters Brave The Cold

More than 53,000 fans filled TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis for the coldest game of the season. Temperatures were in the teens, but it felt like five degrees outside thanks to the wind chill. Folks tailgating before the game set up tents, propane tanks and heat lamps to help stay warm, along with lots of hot food. No matter the conditions, Gopher and Badger fans didn't let Mother Nature take away from the biggest border battle of the season.
