We are hearing some good news today about the three children who survived after the car they were in plunged into a pond in St. Louis Park. In fact, one is making what a family friend is calling "a miraculous recovery."
More details are being released regarding the investigation into a St. Louis Park accident that left five kids stuck in a car underwater for as long as 40 minutes. Two of those kids died and three others remain hospitalized.

Driving south on Highway 100 at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, I heard WCCO-AM's Steve Murphy reporting on a horrific accident. A car was submerged, people trapped inside. I didn't hear the location. I remember thinking it was likely somewhere by Lake Minnetonka. Suddenly at St. Louis Park traffic slowed, and I saw an ambulance racing with lights and sirens on in the northbound lane.
It's the news nobody wants to hear. Five children submerged in icy water for up to a half hour or more. Two have died, and the outlook for the other three is unclear. But for the remaining victims, their age could actually help them survive.
The State Patrol says 5-year-old Zenavia Rennie died Thursday night. Family attorney Rick Petry says 7-year-old Alarious Coleman-Guerrido also died Thursday night.
The intersection near the site of a St. Louis Park crash that claimed the lives of two children has seen 18 crashes from 2010-2012, including one last year in which another vehicle went into the same storm water pond. Minnesota Department of Transportation spokeswoman Bobbie Dahlke says the figure is "relatively low" for an intersection with signals. She says the crash figure includes the whole intersection, not just the ramp where a 23-year-old woman veered into the pond Thursday. Five children were with Marion Guerrido when the car became submerged. Authorities say two died, while three remained hospitalized.

Police arrested 54-year-old Walter Thompson III, also of Minneapolis, on probable cause of second-degree homicide. Thompson and Shaw had a history of domestic issues, and he was currently on probation for violating an order of protection involving the victim.
Police say they've arrested a man in connection with the death of a 46-year-old woman, whose body was found wrapped in a sheet along Cedar Lake Road on Tuesday. St. Louis Park police have 54-year-old Walter Thompson III, of Minneapolis, in custody. Police said he had been involved in a long and violent relationship with the victim, Nerissa Annette Shaw, 46, of Minneapolis.
