MSP Airport Workers Want Minimum Wage Increase

Low-wage workers at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport are calling for an increase in Minnesota's minimum wage. The workers say they are forced to rely on government programs to get by. It's part of a growing debate over whether to raise the state's minimum wage from $7.25 to $9.50 an hour. The Service Employees Union says 600 low-paid workers at Twin Cities Airport – including wheelchair pushers, cart drivers and aircraft cleaners - earn an average of $7.73 an hour, and receive millions of dollars in state public assistance.

Timeline Of Dome Demolition, Vikes Stadium Construction Revealed

Only five home games remain on the Vikings schedule this year. And unless the Vikes go to the playoff, that's how much time is left for the Metrodome. The Dome will be torn down to make way for the Vikings' new home. And it's a very tight timeline between now and 2016, when the Vikes move into their new stadium. Michele Kelm-Helgen, the head of the state commission overseeing new stadium construction, says people shouldn't expect a dramatic, dusty knockdown in Feb. of 2014.

Klobuchar Working With GOP Moderates To End Shutdown

A Minnesota senator is one of the key players hammering out a deal that could end the federal government shutdown. Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar is helping write a compromised version of a plan drafted by Republican Senator Susan Collins and credited GOP moderates. "We are friends," Klobuchar said. "Senate Republicans really came to the fore, more moderates, saying 'We want to work on a compromise,' and that's exactly what's happening today in the Senate."

Paulsen, Ellison Reassure Constituents About Gov't Shutdown's End

The federal government shutdown is now affecting Minnesota jobs. The state will lay off 105 health department workers immediately, and thousands of other federal workers in the state will face the same fate. And Congress appears to be standing still. According to Congressman Erik Paulsen's office, he skipped out on his own event Monday to head back to Washington to work on ending the shutdown. Some disappointed constituents, like Michael Waring of Edina, said they wanted to talk with him about ending the shutdown - even if it means joining with Democrats to do it.

How To MNsure

There is only one Elvis, but there are thousands of self-employed Minnesotans like Elvis impersonator Anthony Shore and his wife Trisha. Both are 32 years old and uninsured. "I'm a healthy individual, but you never know what's going to happen. So yeah, I don't like it. It makes me feel scared not having insurance," Trisha said. Starting next week, uninsured and under-insured Minnesotans can buy health care online at MNsure.org. But one of the biggest problems is getting the word out.

Reality Check: Cost of The New Vikings Stadium

Minnesota is preparing to sell nearly $500 million in bonds to cover the state's share of the Vikings stadium facility. It's looking for financial institutions to buy the bonds for the stadium construction, which is scheduled to start in November. The $498 million in loans will cover the State's and the Minneapolis' share of stadium construction. The Vikings are putting up the rest of the $477 million for the project, which will total $975 million.

Disaster Aid 'On The Way' After Fast Minn. Session

On Monday, Governor Mark Dayton signed an emergency bill into law, sending disaster aid to Minnesota counties hit hard by a week of severe summer storms in June. Eighteen Minnesota counties - including the largest, Hennepin County - were hit by high winds, torrential rains and widespread flooding during the five days of storms. Damage was heavy in the southeastern part of the state, where lawmakers - including Republican Rep. Greg Davids of Preston - thanked Minnesotans for their help.
