Good Question: How Does Minnesota Rank In Recycling?

Minnesota is considering a new recycling program where you could return your drink containers for 10 cents a piece. On Tuesday, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency held a public hearing to release a report that argued our can and bottle recycling rate could rise from 45 percent to 84 percent with a 10-cent deposit fee. The report said a new program would add 1,000 jobs in the state, but costs beverage producers $29 million.So that had us wondering: How does Minnesota rank in recycling?

Judge: Vegas Stowaway Boy To Remain At Youth Facility

A Hennepin County District Court judge decided Friday that the 9-year-old boy who stowed away on a plane to Las Vegas in October should remain in a youth facility. According to the Hennepin County Attorney's office, Friday's hearing was a pre-trial on a Child in Need of Protection and Services (CHIPS) petition, which was filed when the boy returned to Minneapolis in October. The boy's parents were not ready to resolve all of the issues at the proceedings, which led to the scheduling of a trial date.

Doctor Found Dead After Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting

Family and friends are in shock after a prominent Twin Cities doctor was gunned down in his home in Orono Friday night. According to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, police were called to a home on the 1000 block of Heritage Road just before 9 p.m., where they found a man in the front of the property with a handgun. Authorities said shots were exchanged and police killed the man. Law enforcement searched the house and found another man, later identified as Dr. Stephen Larson, dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Larson was a well-known physician who delivered thousands of babies in his career.

Bicyclists Push For 'Cycle Track' On Busy Mpls. Avenue

A group of bicyclists want a protected bike lane on a busy road in Minneapolis. Minnehaha Avenue is set for reconstruction in 2015. Many in the local biking community would like to see a lane that physically separates them from both pedestrians and car traffic – a lane called a "cycle track." For people who bike along Minnehaha, getting from point A to point B is a challenge. Nicole Nafziger knows firsthand how being so close to traffic can make for a scary experience when riding in the bike lane.
