Minnetonka Cops Cleared Of Wrongdoing In Fatal Shooting

A Hennepin County grand jury has cleared two Minnetonka Police officers of any wrongdoing in the fatal shooting of a 27-year-old man in October of last year, according to Minnetonka city officials. Officers James Comings and Ryan Smith shot Michael Tray several times in the underground parking garage of the Claremont Apartments in Minnetonka on the evening of Oct. 23, 2013. Police were initially called on a report of a man with a gun near the apartments. When the officers arrived, they found Tray in the parking garage. Shots were fired, and Tray was killed.

Religious Head Coverings Allowed For Henn. Co. Jail Inmates

Inmates at the Hennepin County Jail in Minneapolis will now be allowed to wear religious head coverings while incarcerated. The announcement about the policy – the first of its kind in Minnesota – was made Thursday by Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek. "I am extremely proud of our current efforts to recognize the religious rights and beliefs of all inmates," Stanek said. "The addition of this policy enhances our efforts to be more culturally aware."

Alleged Drunk Driver Charged With Killing Bicyclist

An alleged drunk driver who struck and killed a bicyclist Monday night was charged Friday with criminal vehicular homicide. According to the Hennepin County Attorney's office, John Iverson, 49, faces up to 10 years in prison after killing 26-year-old Marcus Nalls with his van. Witnesses say Iverson sped west down Franklin Avenue Monday night when he suddenly swerved towards the curb, hit Nalls off of his bike and then ran him over. According to the criminal complaint, Iverson continued driving down the block until his van stopped after hitting a dumpster.
