Twins Fall To White Sox As Challenge Backfires

Ron Gardenhire won his first replay challenge, but the Minnesota Twins' manager conceded afterward that it cost him his starting pitcher. Kevin Correia came out after a lengthy delay, the Twins bullpen couldn't hold a lead and the White Sox beat Minnesota 7-6 on Wednesday. "The 20-second challenge that took a long time," Gardenhire said of the review in the top of the seventh inning. "I don't know what was going on, but it ended up taking a long period of time and you end up losing your starter because of it."

White Sox Score 7 In 1st, Coast To Win Over Twins

Erik Johnson pitched six scoreless innings to earn his first major league victory, and the Chicago White Sox scored seven runs in the first and coasted to a 12-1 win over the Minnesota Twins on Monday night. The White Sox, who had lost six straight and 15 of 17, broke out of their offensive funk against Liam Hendriks and the Twins. Chicago scored a season high in runs and posted its biggest margin of victory this year. After not having led since beating the Tigers 5-1 a week earlier, the White Sox had six hits in the first. Alejandro De Aza and Alexei Ramirez both reached base twice and scored in the inning.

White Sox Rally To Beat Twins 5-4

The double-digit losses and ERA over 5.00 are frustrating enough for Mike Pelfrey. Even worse for the Minnesota Twins right-hander is the lack of progress he's showing this season. "This is by far the worst season of my career," he said after a 5-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Saturday. "It started off brutal and I thought I was getting better for two months, but these last three starts have seemed as (bad) as the first two months." Pelfrey (4-10) lasted just five-plus innings, giving up five runs, four earned, and four hits with five walks. He left the game in the sixth inning after allowing the first two batters to reach on a single and a walk. The Twins' bullpen allowed both inherited runners to score to turn a 4-3 lead into a 5-4 deficit.
