Matt Ruge grew up in Wabasha, the river city two hours south of the Twin Cities with only 2,500 people in it. In a small town like this one, word traveled fast when one of their own was killed in the line of duty early Sunday morning.
It's tough to find the right words during a tragedy, but Burnsville first responders and community members are leaning on faith to stand strong.
"When there aren't words, there are flowers," said the owner of Stem & Vine, a flower shop located in Burnsville, Minnesota who has seen a massive spike in flower orders for fallen first responder's memorials.
On Wednesday, tributes to the three first responders shot and killed in a standoff spilled out onto the emergency vehicles parked outside Burnsville City Hall.
