Stun Gun Used On Man Fleeing Benton County Court

A stun gun was used to detain a Brooklyn Center man after he attempted to flee from custody during a probation violation hearing at the Benton County Court Facility on Thursday morning. Dontae Marcus Frazier, 36, had just been sentenced to 86 months in prison and was about to be taken into custody when he fled the courtroom at about 11:10 a.m. Benton County bailiffs and County Attorney Phil Miller stopped Frazier in a hallway, and a stun gun was soon used to detain him.

Vigil Held For Man, Woman Killed In Hwy 212 Standoff

Friends gathered for a candlelight vigil at the Maple Grove Arboretum Saturday night to remember the two people killed after a high-speed chase on Highway 212 last week. Police shot and killed 36-year-old Matthew Serbus of Brooklyn Center and 34-year-old Dawn Pfister of Delavan, Wis. Their deaths followed a chase with police though Eden Prairie on Highway 212 on Feb. 7. "It's just really shocking," said Serbus' friend Sarah Higgins. "You never think that's going to happen to someone you know."

Surly's 'Darkness Day' Celebrates Stout In Big Way

Beer lovers from around the area made their way to Brooklyn Center Saturday for the sixth annual Darkness Day. The free event is put on by Surly Brewing Company to release their Russian imperial stout beer, Darkness. People from around the country camped out overnight to get their hands on the beer. Chris Bly came all the way from Indianapolis, Ind. to savor the stout. "It's one of the best dark imperial stouts around," Bly said. "Can't-miss thing in the Midwest."
