Minnesota's Zahui B Named To Naismith Trophy Top 10 List
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A day after being named the Big Ten Player of the Year by the media, University of Minnesota sophomore Amanda Zahui B. was named a semifinalist for the Naismith Trophy.
The award goes to the Player of the Year in women's college basketball. Zahui is one of 10 semifinalists.
Zahui became the Gophers' go-to player this season after Rachel Banham went down with a season-ending knee injury. It meant Minnesota had to try to replace the Preseason Big Ten Player of the year. Zahui stepped up, averaging 18.5 points, 12.7 rebounds and four blocks per game. She also shot 55 percent from the field for the season.
She was twice named the ESPNW National Player of the Week and earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors four times. The four finalists for the Naismith Trophy will be announced March 20, with the winner being announced during the Women's Final Four on April 6.
The Gophers have the sixth seed for the Big Ten tournament and play Thursday against the winner of the Illinois-Nebraska game the night before.
