Zach Sobiech's 'Clouds' Debuts On Billboard Charts
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- First it was No. 1 on the iTunes top-selling singles chart. This week, a Stillwater High School student's song has landed on the Billboard music charts at No. 7.
Zach Sobiech died of bone cancer on May 20. He was 18 years old. But his music lives on.
His song "Clouds" debuted this week on the Billboard music charts and has been downloaded more than 156,000 times.
"Clouds," the song he wrote as a farewell, hit No. 1 on iTunes last Wednesday, passing artists with million-dollar record deals. That's a first for a musician with no support from a major label and no previous album.
Proceeds from the song will go to children's cancer research and to Zach's family. When all is said and done, Scott Herold -- founder of Sobiech's nonprofit record label Rock the Cause -- thinks "Clouds" will raise tens of thousands of dollars for osteosarcoma and children's cancer research.
