Young People Go Silent For Human Rights In 'We Day' Campaign
MINNETONKA, Minn. (WCCO) – Young people around the world and especially in the Twin Cities metro will go silent all day Thursday in the battle over basic human rights for kids.
It's part of a campaign on the road to "We Day," and on Thursday, students at Minnetonka Middle School East are taking action by going silent for very personal reasons. It's a global project leading up to the big event at Xcel Energy Center that will bring about 18,000 kids to St. Paul on Oct. 8.
Some students are going silent for refugees, some are going silent for child labor and some are going silent for bullying. One middle school student, Chris Tatros, originally from Egypt decided to go silent for armed conflict.
He said he was last in Egypt about two years ago, when the last massacres started. Egypt has been an unstable place ever since. He said armed conflict hits close to home as most of his family still lives in Egypt.
We Day is an event meant for kids across the nation to take action on issues they are passionate about. It's an effort to one day make the world a better place to live in.
