Xcel Energy partnering with local Latino nonprofit CLUES for Day of Service
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Xcel Energy's Day of Service kicks off on Friday.
That day, Xcel will be partnering with a non-profit that helps the local Latino community.
The goal of CLUES, located in St. Paul's Dayton's Bluff neighborhood, with additional locations in Minneapolis and outstate, is to advance the social and economic well-being of all Latinos in Minnesota, through things like language programs, youth services, like mentorship to help prepare for college, food distribution and mental health and wellness programs.
"They're very thankful that they can go somewhere and see themselves in the people that are serving them," said Guadalupe Torres, Development Associate for CLUES.
"Without our volunteers, we wouldn't be able to do many of our programs that we do at CLUES," said Carmela Torres Leon, CLUES' HR and Volunteer Service Coordinator.
CLUES will be hosting Xcel Energy on their day of service.
"We will be packing dental kits to distribute during our Fiesta Latina, which is on Saturday, September 16th," said Torres Leon. "This year they are donating 3,000 dental kits, which include toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss and mouthwash as well."
CLUES is looking for help year-round, like for their food shelf.
"We're always looking for volunteers who are just looking to volunteer for a day or volunteer as many times as they like," said Torres Leon.
Volunteers that CLUES call crucial, to continue providing critical services for local Latinos.
"It's just really nice to be able to contribute to our community," said Torres Leon.
