Wrong-Way Driver Hits, Injures MN Man On I-94 In Wis.
HAMMOND, Wis. (WCCO) – One person was injured when a wrong-way driver caused an accident on Interstate 94 in western Wisconsin early Saturday morning, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.
The St. Croix County Dispatch Center received a report of a wrong-way driver at about 2:10 a.m. Saturday driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-94 near Hammond, Wis. Officers with the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop the vehicle, and eventually officers with the Hammond Police Department put down tire deflation devices to stop the car.
The vehicle, being driven by 27-year-old Keith Steven Schumacher from Baldwin, Wis., crashed into a car at about 2:23 a.m. and injured 41-year-old man from Bloomington. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Schumacher was taken into custody and charged with fleeing police and eluding causing bodily harm, driving the wrong way on a divided highway, reckless driving, endangering safety and driving without a valid license.
The Wisconsin State Patrol said the accident is still under investigation.
