Boy, 3, Fights For Life After Near Drowning
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 3-year-old boy is in the hospital Friday night after being pulled from a swimming pool.
The sheriff's office says deputies were called to a home in Woodland Township just before 3 p.m., where they found the boy unconscious in the bottom of the above-ground pool.
The boy was airlifted to Children's Minnesota hospital. There is no report on his condition as of late Friday night.
It is the second near-drowning incident involving children in pools in the last ten days. A 5-year-old boy in Eagan is still hospitalized after nearly drowning in an apartment complex pool last week.
The incidents are a reminder to parents and guardians about water safety. The organization Abbey's Hope, which started after 6-year-old Abbey Taylor died from a pool-related injury over a decade ago -- says parents should keep three things in mind.
First, have a designated pool watcher. Second, make sure children who cannot safely swim the length of the pool wear a life jacket at all times. And third, if there appears to be a drowning, remember "throw don't go." That means use a flotation or pool device rather than jumping in to avoid a possible double drowning.
