Woman Gets 2 Years For Stealing More Than $500,000 From Employer

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 47-year-old Chanhassen woman received a two-year prison sentence Friday for stealing more than half a million dollars in checks from her employer, a family-own Minnesota business.

Judge Richard Perkins sentenced Dawn Harriet Curtis to 48 months in prison, the Carver County Attorney's Office said.

From February 2009 to August 2013, Curtis diverted 407 checks from Island View Entertainment, her employer, to a phony company she had set up. In total, the stolen check amounted to $525,025, a criminal complaint said.

Curtis spent nearly all the money paying off debts and living a lavish lifestyle.

She had worked for the company and its subsidiary for 26 years. The company fired her when it learned about the thefts.
