Woman Finds Thousands Of Dollars At Thrift Store
RICHFIELD (WCCO) -- A couple days before Thanksgiving, Cassandra Locken was sorting through stuff at Value Village, the Richfield thrift store where she works, when she made quite a discovery.
She remembers something feeling heavy -- heavier than it should have been.
"So I looked inside," said Locken. "Found another container, opened it up and found a large sum of cash, kind of threw it down because I was so startled by it."
She said she was shaky and sweaty, but not the least bit tempted.
"The only thing I thought of was, I scanned (the room)," said Locken. "It's like, 'Who should I give this to?'"
Locken handed over the money to her manager. Her bosses said it was "thousands of dollars," but they're not giving out any more details.
"We don't want everybody to call in and claim it, 'Oh, this is ours, this is ours,'" said Locken. "We want the people that would know what it was packaged in and know how much is there. We want the true people to get it. The true people to get back what is theirs."
More than 600 people shop at the Richfield Value Village location each day. Between 300 and 400 donate each day. It's impossible to determine who accidentally donated the money. If you think the money belongs to you, call the Richfield Police department.
If nobody claims it, the money will be used by ARC Greater Twin Cities. The nonprofit, which helps people with developmental disabilities and their families, runs the Value Village thrift stores.
